About Us
Cheshire Equine Iridology is run by Ann Townley and Alison Thornley.
ANN TOWNLEY R.M.N (retired). DIP. Equine Iridology, student of Kelly Marks’ Intelligent Horsemanship.
"I have been a horse lover since I was a small child and rode regularly. Later in life I qualified as a Registered Mental Health Nurse and like many others before me, I had to put the riding aside due to work commitments. Having taken early retirement from Nursing I was in a position to move to a property with its own stables and land and finally I own my own horse - Cloud.
As with many horses, moving to a new place can cause various behavioural issues and this resulted in my embarking on a steep learning curve. I studied care and management of both field and stable and began to investigate various methods of training and resolving the behavioural issues which Cloud presented me with.
I attended courses through the Intelligent Horsemanship organisation on; feeding and nutrition, the horse as an athlete, horse psychology, a 5 day foundation course, Stud management and practice, handling the new born foal, handling the untouched horse, leading and loading the less easy horse.
I also began to study equine anatomy & physiology and to investigate and learn about the alternative therapy’s that were available. This led me to a fascination with equine Iridology and ultimately a qualification accredited by the Guild of Naturopathic Iridology Society via the Ellen Collinson’s school of Equine Iridology."
ALISON THORNLEY Cert.Ed. Physical Education. DIP. Equine Iridology
"I have always been passionate about horses and as a child spent every penny of my pocket money I could muster at my local stables or helping friends with their horses. I spent my working life as a Physical Education teacher and during this time I also ran the yard at the weekend for a local riding school in exchange for tuition towards my BHS exams. I passed my Riding Road Safety and my BHS stage 1 but failed the stage 2 on the jumping element. After realising that my ‘fear’ of jumping would continue to be a problem, I made the decision to continue studying the work for the stages but not continue with the exams. This led to me doing some teaching at the Riding Centre in my spare time.
I took early retirement from teaching and finally achieved my dream of owning my own horse (Aero), and land. This led to researching many of the modern ‘Natural Horsemanship’ trainers and their methods and selecting various parts from each one that I felt were appropriate for both myself and the horses that I came into contact with. I then turned my attention to ‘Alternative Therapies’ and that is when Ellen Collinson and her School of Equine Iridology finally gave me what I was looking for - a completely non-invasive and natural way to be able to ensure the health and well-being of the horse."
Accreditation
" Ann and Alison have both been entered on my list of Accredited, Qualified Equine Iridologists. In order to be featured on this list, which can be found on my website, Iridologists must have studied for a Diploma from the Ellen Collinson School of Equine Iridology (the only qualification accredited by the Guild of Naturopathic Iridologists International) and have satisfied me, personally, as to their knowledge, understanding and competence of the subject matter and their ability as Iridologists. I found them both to be extremely competent, with a thorough working knowledge of the subject and have every confidence in their ability to provide an excellent service for you and your horse. "
